About the coffee:
This lot comes from the Codech coop in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, one of the first origins our owner, Matt, visited back 2017 while working for a different coffee company, before opening Moxie. Each year, a tasting competition is held amongst 450+ producers in the Codech coop, and in 2023... Wendy Hernandez took first place.
Her story is an unlikely one. A few years ago, her father passed away unexpectedly. He owned and managed all the coffee production on the farm, but hadn't trained his family how to properly grow, harvest and process the coffee. Upon his passing, Wendy took over the farm, but didn't know how exactly how to produce great coffee.
Shortly thereafter, Wendy joined the Codech coop. The team taught her how to care for the land properly, how to grow, harvest and produce her crop, and ultimately, that led to an award-winning coffee that blew us away.
We wish we could have purchased more, but due to high demand, only a few bags of this coffee is available to us. It's stretched our mind about what's possible with a clean, washed Guatemalan coffee, and we couldn't be more excited to share it with you.
